What of the temptation?

Failing to connect with reality is why some of us have pants in the closet that haven't fit in years. More significantly, keeping us imprisoned and knocked within unwanted confinement entirely.

In our last article, we ended with a scene of an episode from a series I watched last weekend – This is, "
I was watching episode ten of YOLO season five yesterday, and there was a scene of a teacher with his students talking on reproductive health. This teacher gave one very 'look-intelligent' suggestion on how to kill sexual desires. He accepted a contribution from one of his students that engaging in physical and sporting activities helps to kill sexual desires. Interesting! We will delve deeper into this in our next article."

Permit me to give a bold assertion here that we give power to our 'viewing' habit when we resist it or try to suppress it. This concept may be new to someone and may react feistily to it. Some may ask, are you saying we succumb to it? It may seem very counter-intuitive. I'll ask you to suspend your inner skeptic for a moment, as we get to know that, not resisting is different from succumbing. We will also know how resisting works against the 'viewer' in having power over this addiction.

Temptation/Urges/desires are not evil in itself; this is why it comes to everyone. The best men in the world feel the urges a 'viewer' may feel, even those who seem to have it together pretty well.
There is no reason to feel guilty or powerless when the temptation comes. It is just a thought with no power, except the power we give it. The next time you experience the desire by whatever triggers is, think about it this way: "This is just a thought/feeling/temptation. It does not reflect on me because temptations come to everyone without exception. I need not feel guilty, shameful, powerless or weak just because I feel tempted to 'view' and 'do'.

We have dealt with the shame and guilt that 'viewing' habit brings. At this point, we must realize that the temptation is not the source of guilt and shame. The action we take after experiencing the temptation is the cause of the guilt and shame.

In the past, it has been natural for the 'viewer' to fall for his or her 'viewing' habit upon experiencing the urge and the temptation. This makes us associates the temptation directly with viewing with no space between the urge and acting on the urge. Your focus has been on trying to avoid triggers and situations that would bring temptation to mind so you wouldn't experience the temptation. You thought this would prevent you from viewing and doing. Let me state this as plainly as I can: This doesn't work.

When you attempt to resist the temptation, it fights back and stays around. Carl Gustav Jung, a renowned Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology, stated that "what you resist not only persists but will grow in size."

By realizing it is natural and comes to all, it becomes easier to acknowledge. Acknowledging is crucial to success because it places you in control of the temptation instead of the temptation controlling you. In other words, the more you let the temptation hang around without acknowledging it; the more likely you are to act on it.

We give power to ourselves when we immediately acknowledge the temptation plainly, directly and explicitly.

The acknowledgement and acceptance now unlink the temptation from the action and allow you to deal with It. I hope this article makes sense. Kindly share this week’s article with at least one person, and you’ve done the Lord's biding! Have a blessed moment.
